Our Wellness Workshops
Working long hours sitting at a desk, repetitive physical actions and dealing with stress can all have a negative impact on our health. Our workshops show your team how to decrease stress and pain at work, improving productivity and mental wellbeing.
Introduction to Yoga
There is a saying that ‘sitting is the new smoking’. The current estimates from www.hse.gov.uk suggest that stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted for the majority of days lost due to work-related ill health, 17.9 million and 8.9 million respectively. Our yoga poses are specifically chosen to benefit the desk worker and can be performed wearing comfortable work attire. The yoga sequence taught will be aimed at reducing tension in area of the spine impacted by long hours sitting or standing.
Mindfulness
Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts, describes Mindfulness as “awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Many of us live our lives on autopilot, not aware of what we are experiencing; missing out on all the sights, sounds, smells, connections and joys we could appreciate. Mindfulness helps us be present in our lives and gives us some control over our reactions and repetitive thought patterns. It helps us pause, get a clearer picture of a situation, and respond more skillfully.
Introduction to Yoga
Nutrition in the workplace plays a crucial role in maintaining employee health, energy, productivity, and overall well-being. The food choices made during work hours directly impact cognitive function, mood, and physical stamina. Here's an overview of how nutrition affects workplace performance and how organizations can promote better eating habits for employees:
1. Impact of Nutrition on Workplace Performance
Energy and Productivity: Poor nutrition can lead to fatigue, decreased concentration, and reduced productivity. A diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables helps sustain energy throughout the day.
Cognitive Function: Nutrient-rich foods like fish (high in omega-3 fatty acids), berries (rich in antioxidants), and leafy greens can enhance memory, focus, and cognitive processing speed.
Mood and Stress Management: Diets high in refined sugars and processed foods can contribute to mood swings and increased stress. Arleen will go through mood boosting foods which are easy to implement daily.
Absenteeism and Healthcare Costs: Poor nutrition can lead to chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, heart disease), which increase absenteeism and healthcare costs. Encouraging healthy eating habits reduces these risks.
Breath Work
Arleen Scholten is a qualified Breathwork Facilitator. Incorporating breathwork into workplace corporate events is becoming increasingly popular as companies prioritize employee well-being, stress management, and team cohesion. Breathwork involves various breathing techniques designed to reduce stress, enhance focus, and promote relaxation. It can be a powerful tool in corporate settings where employees often face high-pressure environments and mental fatigue.
Benefits of Breathwork in the Workplace
Stress Reduction:
Breathwork activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for calming the body. This reduces stress hormones like cortisol and promotes relaxation.
Regular practice can help employees manage day-to-day stress more effectively, leading to increased resilience during stressful situations.
Improved Focus and Mental Clarity:
Breathwork enhances oxygen flow to the brain, improving cognitive function and concentration.
It helps clear mental fog, making employees more focused and productive, particularly during long meetings or after lunch when energy tends to dip.
Boosted Energy and Reduced Fatigue:
Certain breathing techniques, such as diaphragmatic or rhythmic breathing, can help boost energy levels by enhancing oxygen intake and improving circulation.
This can reduce feelings of tiredness and give employees an energy lift without needing to rely on caffeine or sugar.
Emotional Regulation and Improved Mood:
Breathwork is linked to emotional well-being. Techniques like deep, slow breathing help calm the mind, which can decrease feelings of anxiety and promote emotional balance.
In high-pressure situations, such as corporate deadlines or conflict resolution, employees can use breathwork to maintain composure and handle challenges calmly.
Increased Team Cohesion:
Group breathwork sessions during corporate events can foster a sense of connection among participants. Practicing mindfulness and relaxation together can break down barriers and
